THE SURF
A Surfers Haven ...

Otuhaka Beach Resort, Tonga Surfer can try a variety of waves all year around. The best time is during our winter season from April - Oct.

The summer season is Nov - Mar. It is only a 10 minutes walk from our resort to the best surfing spot in Tonga.

Tonga- from South to North
The Pass - a hollow left which is the most consistent small swell wave around, there's a section, shallow right on the other side that works in the summer season, most southerly break

Motels or Ha'atafu - hollow lefts with fast walls on any size swell.

The Peak - a small right, look out when it's over 4 foot

Corners is a deeper left that has very workable walls, one of the safer spot in Tonga.

The Bowl or (The Hook) Beware, if you thought Ala Moana Bowl had a bend in it, look again. Insane left barrel. A bottom reef that eats fins and skin.

Fishtraps and Race Track, a fast left that gets longer and better with larger swells.

Lighthouse is not for the light hearted, a dangerous barrelling right-hander.

Atata Reefs, Two or three breaks, depending on the swell direction and reachable only by boat. This is where you want to be when everywhere else closes out on a S or big NW. All the privacy you want because you create you own crowd.

What's the best time to visit?

Tonga has a tropical climate. This means that there are basically two seasons - a hot and humid 'winter' season (November to April), and a drier, milder 'summer' season from May to October.

The latter season has less chance of rain; however, the summer season sees more flowers. Don't forget the whale watching season (July - November) right in front of Vakaloa Beach Resort.
