Your Trip

You will be picked up from Padang international airport and taken to the boat located in Bungus harbour, about a 90 minute drive.

Once onboad the Indies Explorer put your wallet away. There are no hidden costs or taxes. The boat is owned and operated by Australian surfers along with experienced Indonesian crew and captain ( Eddie ). Eddie is also a very experienced surf guide along with O’neill our chef and they know just what you want in a surf trip.

We depart the Sumatran mainland in the evening and travel through the night. The next morning when you wake, you will find yourself in the beautiful Mentawai next to a world class surf break. From here we spend the next 10 days surfing our way through the islands of the Mentawai.

The Indies Explorer is an owner operated 115ft ironwood ketch built exclusively for long range surf charters and exploration in Sulawesi by Haji Darmand and his team in late 1998 and refurbished by our team in 2010-2011. She features all updated navigation and safety equipment such as Satellite phone, radar, GPS, Sounder, SSB radio, a 25 man life raft, life jackets, fire extinguishers, all new maps, medical kits, 220 v electricity plus more..  The Indies Explorer is registered to carry 25 passengers and is powered by a Nissan 10 cylinder 480 hp motor.

Also along for the ride we have our 6.1mtre tender/ runabout powered by a new 40hp Yamaha for zooming you to and from the break with ease. The tender has a stainless steal removable annexe for shade whilst filming, taking photos or resting watching the waves. It is also perfect for the afternoon fishing trip.

The Indies Explorer features a polished timber open plan kitchen, saloon and outdoor dining area with plenty of seating for all aboard. The saloon consists of a big screen LCD TV and Playstation3 equipped for gaming and DVD enjoyment for all. We also have a good sound system with CD and iPod dock, so bring your own music to relax to after a full day of epic waves.

The entire boat has been refurbished including the bathrooms, showers, kitchen, saloon, guest rooms, kitchen, the bridge, engine room, all electrical wiring the lot plus more, making for a very tidy, smooth operating charter boat perfect for your trip.

The Indies also has air-conditioning and ten private cabins, 8 with double beds and some rooms with single beds as well, plus staff quarters means that the spacious Indies Explorer is the perfect boat for your wife or girlfriend to feel relaxed and enjoy her trip as well.
